Classes

At Hester's Hollow, we offer an exclusive opportunity for knife enthusiasts to learn from our lead blacksmith, Aaron. With our knife building classes, you can create a one-of-a-kind knife that reflects your personal style and preferences.

Our classes are structured as a "build-a-long" experience, where you will work closely with Aaron to design and craft your own custom knife. You will have the option to choose from three different classes, each offering a unique set of skills and techniques.

During the classes, Aaron will guide you through the entire knife-making process, from selecting the materials to shaping and finishing the blade. You will learn how and why we finish our knives with a technique that adds texture and character to the knife's surface.

With Aaron's expertise and guidance, you can create a knife that is truly your own. Whether you prefer a sleek and modern design or a rustic and traditional look, our classes cater to all styles and preferences.

Here are the three classes you can choose from:

  1. Class 1: Railroad Knife Class - In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of knife making as with all our classes you will also leave with our build guide. Aaron will teach you how to shape the blade, handle, and tang, and how to shape a railroad spike into a functional knife. This class is perfect for beginners or those looking to refine their skills.
  2. Class 2: High Carbon Knife Build - If you already have some experience in knife making, this class will take your skills to the next level. You will learn advanced techniques by creating a 6" knife of your design (with advice for time management and structural integrity) with each hammermark being your own.
  3. Class 3: Custom Build - For those seeking a truly custom build class, this class focuses on making your image come to life. Aaron will guide you through the process of forging and shaping steel into the priorly discussed dimensions and shape.  Typical classes are 5-7 hours, our custom class varies in pricing and timing per individual build.
